This is why we normally use high-temperature gels when we mount PARs on bases and run them at full intensity (1000W):



Oops.

Also, you can't see it in this picture, really, but the gel is a bit melted around the "R384" written in sharpie, as the black ink absorbed more heat than the blue.

(Yes, my cameraphone sucks, but you get the gist of it.)
