Google is kinda wonky.

A few weeks ago, Matt Grau pointed out that a Google image search for povray listed my 239 am clock as the first results, and indeed, I verified this to be true.

Last week, I was discussing something about Google with people in the cs lounge, and I pointed out this search to them; my result was no longer first, however, just on the first page.

Chris Jackson then pointed out the other day that I had returned to the first result, and indeed I have. Does this make sense to anyone? Is Google actually updating its image database finally, or did I just stumble on some sort of odd Google bug?

Doesn't Google return results based on how often the link has been clicked? That just means that people have been looking at your picture at about the same volume as the next picture, and for a brief time more people were looking at your picture than the other one, but now yours is in the lead again.

That said, I've seen that picture before when looking for POVRAY images (my alumnus friend CalvinM does a *lot* of work in POVRAY). I am highly impressed and somewhat humbled by the fact that your picture is the first one on a Google Image Search. Good show.

That's Calvin, not CalvinM - hit the key next to the wakka by accident.

That said, if you care, here's Calvin's POVRAY stuff: http://www.icosilune.com/art/rendered/index.html
