I received my Virginia absentee ballot in the mail today, which means it's about time for me to get back up on my soapbox again, this time in the form of a poll.

[Poll #833185]
(Edit: okay, yeah, I worded the last question badly. It's perfectly fine if you're planning to vote in person.)

Seriously, all, this is an important election we're facing, and the college-age group is typically the most underrepresented. We should change this.

If you're registered or planning to register in Fairfax, VA, you can view information about registering here and about voting absentee here.

More generically, you can look at the voter resources page at Project Vote Smart. You can choose a state there and get more information for the one you care about.

Deadlines for registration and absentee voting are coming up very soon. Please take the time today to fill out the necessary forms and send them in. There's no excuse not to vote.

Similarly, you should pester your friends to make sure that they vote as well.

That is all.

Okayokay, after this post's prompting, I called my county's voting office, asked them some questions about which forms to fill out (they have a student program, and I wanted to know if they could get me a form in time if I just did that... the answer was no), then went and printed out the forms and finally filled them out. I will mail them tonight after Linda Linda Linda if I can find my envelopes/stamps.

The good news is that I won't have to request an absentee ballot for the next two years. They'll just keep sending them to me :D

Funny thing is, five minutes later, I was randomly selected to participate in a poll for a government class... I would have been embarassed saying "NO..." to "Do you plan on voting in the upcoming November election this year, 2006?"

Yay, good reminder.

I'm not old enough :(

Wow... I forgot what it was like to be so young...

None of the choices for why really applied to me, and I ran out of room in the text box, so I will explain here.

I just moved here and have printed out a copy of the DC voter's registration, but I haven't filled it in yet. I never "officially" revoked my registration in PA, but I can't really justify voting there, and I also can't justify voting in Maryland, where I also never "officially" revoked it but have also never voted. If I send it in soon, I think I will still be eligible to vote in November.

I'm still undecided though about what to do in November. I don't even have a representative, so only local issues will be on my ballot. The mayor's race was pretty much determined by the primary. That by itself is not an excuse for me not to vote, but since I'm new here and still don't know much about the local issues and don't know if I'll be able to research them thoroughly enough while adjusting to everything else here, I might just be a bad person and not vote. But you should contact your representative and urge him to vote for me to have one too in the bill that is to be voted on soon.

Forgive me?
