These are posted all around campus for the filming of "Smart People".
Signs on Campus

I think the "throughout the universe" bit amuses me the most. Also, I doubt these are really legally binding.

Also: vote today, if you haven't already done so.

They covered over the last part with masking tape because people were complaining about it.

I like the double exclamation points.

I also have to wonder what percentage of students would object to being in a movie...

Probably an impressively large number. CMU is full of indignant privacy wanks and people who hate movies.

The rest of them are probably just indignant that said movie is going to be filmed on campus and thereby getting in everyone's way.

/me grumbles about the fact that they're taking over all public space in his dorm for 3 days plus setup and teardown.

It's really very important to make sure you secure the galactic screening rights for your movie.

They're still supposed to be filming through the weekend, right? This could be promising for my future Erdos-Bacon number!

I'm just pissed because they have signs going in one direction on that walkway but not the other. If they really want to avoid a lawsuit or whatever, they should have it outside all of the doors and walkways. I personally do NOT want to appear on screen in their movie, and if I make it into a shot, I'll flash the cameras if I realize I'm on screen, or else I'll sue the company once the film is out if I see myself on it. I can't stress enough how much I do NOT want to be in it.

In case some aren't aware:

"Dear parents. Due to yesterday's unscheduled field trip to the auto
wrecking yard, the school bus will be out of commission for two weeks.
By reading this letter out loud, you have waived any legal
responsability on our part in perpetuity throughout the universe."

It's probably not legally binding, but it probably doesn't have to be anyway. It's not like they came to your house and filmed you. Things you do in public (or technically here, private property, but not yours) are public.

This is absolutely correct. Walking past a sign like this in no way manifests assent to any form of a contract, but no contract is needed. In the US, generally, there is no need for permission to reuse a person's likeness in any manner the cinematographer sees fit, so long as another crime or tort isn't committed (e.g., defamation, trespassing, copyright infringement). Generally, photographers and film studios like to get permission, to head off any later claims of defamation, but for this kind of situation where they may catch you on film casually walking in the background of a scene, there is no legal obligation of any kind.

(std disclaimer)I am a law student, not a lawyer, not licensed to practice anywhere, this is not legal advice, but I can't keep myself from chiming in on legal issues when I'm bored in class(/std disclaimer)

Didn't CMU learn enough about pain from letting WonderBoys film there?
